Work Order

From Vanguard WikiSpheres

Work orders are the primary means of advancement in the crafting sphere. While the actual content of the work order may vary, the concept remains the same: A taskmaster has a list of jobs, a crafter picks one and makes the requested item, and the taskmaster rewards the crafter.

Work Order Sources

Various NPCs give you work orders. Refining Taskmasters and Finishing Taskmasters are usually found in city and outpost crafting centers and provide work orders for refining raw materials and making finished products, respectively; other NPCs you may encounter may have one or two work orders for you to fill, if you are in the correct profession.

Types of Work Orders

Work orders come in three basic sizes: individual items, sets, and batches:

  • Work orders that ask for only one item are generally quick to complete and give a small coin reward.
  • Sets, which require three of an item, take a bit longer to do, but may give a small item (usually to be sold to a vendor) along with coin.
  • Batches require five of an item. In return, the crafter may receive a few trinkets, or even a rare item, along with coin.

While speculation abounds as to which type of Work Order is best, it is agreed that batches are the best way to get usable items from work orders and individual items are the quickest way to improve your faction.

Rewards

Technical description of how rewards are done.

Quality Point Table
Quality D C B A
Points 0 1 2 3

Add up the total quality points for the items you are turning in. If you were turning in a set consisting of one A, one B, and one C, you would add 3 + 2 + 1 = 6.

Now divide by the number of items turned in. In our example, this is 3. So 6 / 3 = 2.

Quality Point Average Rewards
QPA <1 >=1 and <2 >=2 and < 3 =3
Rewards coin coin
Supply Pouch (green bag)
coin
Supply Pack (blue bag)
coin
Supply Kit (yellow bag)

A yellow bag can contain better items than a blue bag; a blue bag can contain better items than a green bag. All bags still can only contain vendor junk.

Factions

Completing any work order improves your faction rating with several crafting and city factions. You will usually improve your faction with the continent you are on, one or more cities, and one or more crafting factions (see Crafting Faction Table).

Difficulty

The work orders listed by the taskmasters are sorted by the level of difficulty (hardest to easiest). Following is the list of difficulty levels.

Work Order Difficulties
Difficulty Color
Downright Impossible Purple
Very Difficult Red
Difficult Yellow
Moderate White
Easy Dark Blue
Very Easy Light Blue
Trivial Grey
