Combat

From Vanguard WikiSpheres

Combat guide coming soon.

Attacks

Melee

There are several types of melee attacks. Not all classes get access to all of them.

Autoattack
Every class can autoattack. Once enable you just use your currently equipped melee weapon to hurt your opponent; you keep swinging until you stop autoattacking or your opponent is dead. Most other melee attacks start autoattack and can be used without interfering with it.
Special attacks
most classes get a few special melee attacks that can be used. They cost you endurance, energy, or class specific powers (e.g., Jin for monks) and cause more damage and/or other useful effects.
Chain attacks
some classes get bridge attacks. These become available when their preconditions are met; you will then have a short opportunity to trigger them. They tend to be more powerful than special attacks.
  • Bridge attacks become available after you perform a critical hit; if successful, they open up even more devastating finishing moves.
Defensive reactions
some classes get defensive reactions. If you notice an enemy attack that you can defend against, you get some time to react to it.

Weaknesses

Every adventuring class has the ability to cause and exploit weaknesses while using abilities and spells. If the offensive target is afflicted with a weakness (shown in a row of icons directly underneath the offensive target window), then an ability or spell that is designated to exploit that weakness will do additional damage to the target.

Information about which abilities cause and exploit each weakness, how effectively class pairings can work with weaknesses, and how many potential weakness combos each class has is shown in the Weakness Charts.
